Mirus Aircraft Seating, a British commercial aircraft seating manufacturer, is proud to formally announce that the Hawk economy class seat is now flying with leading low-cost carrier AirAsia.
The Hawk is a high-performance product that draws on Formula 1 engineering expertise and an automotive production mentality to redefine value in aircraft seating. The stylish, slimline platform is ergonomically optimised and engineered for lightness, durability and reliability. All Hawk seats are assembled at Mirus’ state-of-the-art automotive-style production facility in Norfolk, UK. So far, all seats have been received on-time and ready for continued installation onto AirAsia’s existing Airbus A320 ceo fleet.
The installation of the all-new Hawk seat reinforces AirAsia’s innovation focus. Based on the weight saving compared to AirAsia’s previous seats, the Hawk will enable fuel burn per aircraft per year to be reduced by an average of over 70,000 litres. This supports AirAsia’s commitment to low air fares and bringing flying to all. Furthermore, a >200 tonne saving in annual CO2 emissions per aircraft will ensure a significant reduction in fleet-wide carbon footprint.
This initial retrofit programme will be followed by the delivery of linefit seats for AirAsia’s brand new Airbus A320 and A321 neo aircraft. These seats will also feature integrated high power 2A USB, ensuring a step change in LCC passenger experience.
