At Mirus Aircraft Seating, while we have always developed and encouraged our own talent, last year we fully embraced the role of graduates as a key part of our growth strategy. We would like to welcome our 2024 graduates on board.

We believe that learning develops with hands-on experience, and guidance from the industry’s best. That’s why we have created a programme for students taking time out to gain some hands on industry experience, or graduating from university.

Operating within a very specific market in the aviation world and combined with a national shortage of engineers it can be challenging to hire the exact skills that we need.

Last summer, Mirus held their first Graduate Assessment Centre with an aim of providing excellent support and development to those with the foundation skills, aptitude, and attitude to become the best aerospace engineers in their field. The event was a success with 4 graduates embarking on their exciting journey with us in Applications, Applications (Design and Certification), Design and Development, and Stress.

Our graduate programme provides:
• Industry exposure and experience
• Exposure to the world of aviation
• Professional development
• Mentorship from our experienced team and leaders in the aviation industry
• Training on aircraft seating industry best practices.
• Competitive salary with the potential for future employment opportunities with Mirus.

Our graduates have worked closely with more experienced members of the team to develop both their knowledge of our sector, and also their own skills specific to their function from learning very specialist software in our MTEST dynamic testing facility, to being more hands on with developing our product. Each graduate has positively contributed to their team in a meaningful way and we are delighted to say that they have progressed to become ‘engineers’.

Following on from their success, we are now welcoming our 2024 graduate intake with four new graduate engineers:  Georgy – Graduate Engineer, Applications,  James – Graduate Certification Engineer, Ifan – Graduate Design & Development Engineer and Amelie – Graduate Design & Development Engineer. We have also extended our graduate scheme to offer our first industry placement this year which is in Industrial Design with James C joining us as Undergraduate Industrial Designer. The aim of a placement year is to give those undertaking their university course the opportunity to explore potential career paths and provide valuable work experience, whilst developing skills for the future. For Mirus, it also means we benefit from new and fresh ideas and allows us to assess potential recruits for the future.

“Having just starting my placement year at Mirus, I'm looking forward to an exciting journey ahead. I’ve felt very involved by the team, and have already had the opportunity to contribute my ideas to both current and future projects. It's been an engaging experience, with each day offering new knowledge through the great teams who work here. I would like to thank my manager, Tom Cox, for his exceptional support, guidance and for providing a steer into what it is like being an industrial designer. Tom has entrusted me with a variety of projects, which has already helped me build on my learning of software and confidence within design. This start to my placement year has been fantastic, and I am eager to continue collaborating with the teams here and build on my knowledge and skills. By the end of this placement, I hope to have created lasting connections, allowing me to pick their brains for when I return to university for my final year.”

James Challenor | Undergraduate | Industrial Design

Looking forward, we are already looking ahead at our 2025 graduate programme. Over the coming months, we will be attending careers events and talking to potential new recruits ahead of our 2025 Assessment Day in Q1 next year. We are also looking to develop our graduate programme more generally, offering the opportunity for graduates to experience different specialisms across engineering.
