LOCATION: Hingham, Norfolk (NR9) – Office based role
DEPARTMENT: Production
SALARY: Competitive
HOURS: Full time/permanent - 37 hours per week (Mon – Thurs: 8hrs/ Fri: 5 hrs – finish early)

About the role

You will be responsible for the manufacturing assembly processes and continuous improvement of commercial aerospace products and the, supporting the launch of our products. You will be able to apply your expertise to optimize efficiency, yield, and cost of our products and processes using Lean methodologies.

Supporting multiple new product development (NPD) Projects you will lead DFM/A, PFMEA, production readiness reviews and the design and implementation of lean manufacturing cells to ensure production viability on launch.

In your role as our Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will:

  • Support production readiness of new product development programs, leading readiness reviews and planning activities to support
  • Collaborate with design, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability (DFM/DFA)
  • Fulfil Manufacturing Engineering requirements with DFM/A, APQP and project execution throughout NPD/I Process
  • Lead the design, manufacture and introduction of tooling and assembly aids
  • Lead problem-solving on complex production issues, ensuring robust corrective actions
  • Conduct PFMEA, process capability analysis, and root cause investigation
  • Drive continuous improvement throughout to optimize the performance of our products and processes using Lean Sigma and APQP methodologies
  • Identify and/or specify new equipment, processes and methods
  • Identify and deliver cost reduction and waste elimination initiatives
  • Identify and reduce operational risk using structured tools and techniques
  • Analyse process performance and development improvement projects using DMAIC approach
  • Assist in writing SOP tasks, using interlocked and error proofing process control systems

About you

  • Experience working in production/manufacturing environments as a Manufacturing / Production / Process Engineer
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry such as Automotive / Aerospace OEM or First Tier supplier or equivalent industries
  • Strong background in production line and assembly line design and optimisation
  • Experience supporting NPI and serial production environments
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications
  • Practical working knowledge in the application and implementation of lean manufacturing
  • Ability to evaluate, develop and improve existing production processes

Desirable:

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as assembly and finishing of machining composites
  • Practical working knowledge of robotics and automation including operational programming
  • Demonstrable experience of influencing product realization using a structured approach to DFM/A/C. (Design for Manufacture, Assembly, Cost)
  • Technical experience in Manufacturing Engineering, with a professional qualification (university degree) and/or background in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical)
  • Or a relevant (IMechE) or (IET) qualification / Apprenticeship or equivalent vocational training
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Demonstrable experience in communicating to audiences of different levels through various channels in a concise manner
  • High level of personal accountability and a strong bias for action
