LOCATION: Hingham, Norfolk (NR9) – Office based role
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
SALARY: Competitive
HOURS: Full time/FTC - 38 hours per week (Mon – Thurs: 8hrs/ Fri: 6 hrs – finish early)

About the role

As our Industrial Designer, you will play a crucial part in supporting the Industrial Design Manager in designing, developing and visualising new product concepts for our industry-leading aircraft seating. Working on both existing and future product lines, you will work closely with our new product development team to conceptualise new ideas, generate 3D CAD models and produce high-quality promotional assets as well as collaborating with both our Sales & Marketing and Programmes teams.

In your role as our Undergraduate Industrial Designer, you will:

  • Follow our industrial design process, including identifying requirements and creating innovative solutions that answer the brief from all key stakeholders, ensuring a structured concept down selection is followed that meets programme timescales
  • Ideate new concepts via sketching and Adobe CC (Illustrator, Photoshop etc.)
  • Refine existing/generate new complex 3D CAD models using SolidWorks
  • Utilise our in-house 3D printing facility to fast-track concept analysis
  • Create renders and animations to support Sales & Marketing using Blender
  • Present your ideas and finished designs to the wider project team

About you

To help Mirus continue our journey you will bring your knowledge and skills learnt within a design capacity, a passion for innovation, problem solving abilities and drive for excellence along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

  • Working towards an Industrial Design or Product Design Degree
  • Have a passion for automotive and/or aerospace
  • A-C grade A-level in Design & Technology or equivalent
  • 3D CAD experience using the software SolidWorks, ideally with knowledge of complex surfaces
  • Rendering experience utilising the software Blender
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign

Desirable:

  • On course for a 2:1 or higher at a respected University for Design
  • A-Level in Art would be beneficial
  • Proficiency in the use of Autodesk Alias surfacing software would be an advantage
  • Animation experience using the software Blender
  • Good hand sketching ability to quickly realise and convey new concepts

Personal skills / attributes:

  • A creative person with some experience of innovating and improving a product but who also understands the strength of following a design process
  • Motivated, collaborative and confident, with a passion for design and a great eye for detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and graphical)
